Natt och Dag
Natt och Dag — the country's oldest existing family of pure Swedish extraction. The name, which was first generally used by the family members in the 18th century, origins from the crest, an escutcheon divided in gold and blue. The oldest established ancestor is the knight, chief judge, and councilor Nils Sigridsson (deceased 1299 at the earliest), who is first mentioned in 1280.
The family, which was introduced in 1625 (March 10th—April 4th), counts among its members the two councilors Svante Nilsson Sture (desceased 1512) and Sten Svantesson Sture (Sten Sture the Younger; 1492—1520) and the latter's son Svante Stensson Sture (1517—1567), who in 1561 became the country's first count, but who's branch was extinct in 1616.
Belonging to the family is the baronial family Natt och Dag n:o 23, baronial in 1652, introduced 1653, and extinct in 1677; furthermore the baronial family Sture n:o 187, baronial in 1720, introduced 1723, and extinct in 1875.
Branches residing in USA are named DeRemee and Dagg.
